select the character on the campaign map, then type for example, give_trait this
"GoodCommander" 5 or whatever desired trait. This also works for the give_ancillary code.
Unlock All Factions:
--------------------
Submitted by: matthew
Find your way to the Medieval II Total War\data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign
directory and youll see a file called descr_strat. Cut and Paste the unlockable
section into the playable section.
Now just save and close and youll have all your factions unlocked.
Getting Special/Unique Retinue Items:
-------------------------------------
To get unique and very cool items for your generals' retinues you need to perform historically
important acts. Eg. As a western faction you can send a general on Crusade and when they conquer
the target city they will receieve a special item such as the Holy Grail, or Mary's Veil.
These special items add great bonuses to your generals' stats and abilities so they are well
worth going out to get.
6 Month Turns instead of 2 Year Turns:
--------------------------------------
To change the ratio of Turns to actual time from 1 Turn = 2 Years to 1 Turn = 6 Months
follow these steps:
1 - go to your medieval 2:total war folder,then data,world,maps,campaign,imperial_campaign
2 - copy the file desc_strat to your desktop
3 - make sure it is not read-only
4 - open it using notepad
4 - go down where it says "start_date" there look for timescale
5 - change 2.5 (ithink) to 0.50
6 - save the file
7 - cut the file in your desktop and paste it in "imperial_campaign" folder (make sure you replace
it, dont make a second copy)
8 - start the game and begin your very long campaign
This ensures youll never run out of time if you are a slow player like me who enjoys consolidating
after each conquest. And don't worry about events as they change to fit into the new time frame.
This means it takes a while for gunpowder to be discovered...but hey, you have to make sacrafices!

needs capitalizing or else it will not work.
Cheat Effect
------------------

"weapon (1-3)"
Example -
creat_unit "London" Longbowmen 2 9 3 3
The above code will create 2 units of Longbowmen in London with 3 Gold Chevrons, Level 3
armor and Level 3 weapon
create_unit "settlement or character" "unit ID" "amount (1-5)" "experience (1-9)" "armor (1-3)"
"weapon (1-3)" Creates Unit at any settlement/general you like
Adding Units to Stacks:
-----------------------
Just pick a city or any unit as if moving it and just open console and simple type george or
any of those on this list and hit enter to get the following units
Cheat Effect
-------------------------------------
george Mercenary - Monster Ribault
houston Mercenary - Rocket Launcher
istanbul Mercenary - Monster Bombard
madras - Elephants
rogan - Elephant Artillery
vindaloo - Elephant Rocketeer
Billion florins at start of grand campaign:
-------------------------------------------
I know there is a cheat: add_money 40000, its a good cheat but there is an easier way. Go to
programfiles/SEGA/data/world/imperialcampaign/descr_strats, then find the faction you want to
play then look for their starting florins then change it to 9999999999, if you want to be really
brutal you can change your enemies starting money low.
Resource Manipulation:
----------------------
Go into the game root folder ie:
C:\Programme Files\Sega\Medieval II Total War\data\world\maps\campaign\Imperial Campaign\descr_strat
This is a read only file so remember to remove the check next to read only in order to alter the
file. Here you can alter any of the resources, money, start and end of campaign time etc.
Remember to back up the file before altering any inputs
Maximizing the Balista:
-----------------------
The use of the Balista siege unit has become more so compared to Rome: Total War as now
it is dangerously more accurate and packs more ammunition. Although the Balista can snipe
shot any unit from a distance with amazing accuracy, it is best to place them (actually
move them) to the right or left flanks of a target unit, compared to placing them in front
or behind the target.
This way the Balista will kill more units with its bolts (a good kill is at least 3-4 units
per shot, 2 rounds per shot). It also ignores armor, thus makes hard to kill units such as
heavy cavalry easy pickings if positioned correctly. Thus, this is unit an extremely important
ranged/siege unit early in the game until gun powder units arrive.
A "Geographical" Way to Kill Enemy Agents:
----------
There is an alternative way to kill enemy agents (Assassins, Diplomats, Inquisitors, Priests
(Imams & Cardinals), Princess, Merchants and Spies) without the use of a friendly Assassin.
This tactic is especially useful against agents that are difficult to kill and give you a
rough time such as assassins, inquisitors and spies.
Apparently when you move a non-agent unit (troops or your general) to a tile where the agent
is, the agent will be moved to another tile. If you surround the agent with units or force
him/her to a geographical corner and then place a unit there, the agent will automatically
"die". Probably being trampled to death.
Also note that units have trouble automatically passing through 2 tiles (in a row) that already
have units on them. This means you have to manually move (merge) them to one tile (already
containing a unit), then to the next tile.
Training Assassins:
-------------------
Without an Assassin's Guild, it is extremely difficult to use them to start killing of rivals,
as they do not start with bonus traits the guild provides for new recruits. The easiest way
to level up your assassins are to sabotage rival religious buildings (churches, mosques, etc.)
which are easier to sabotage than other buildings (usually above 60% success rate).
Continue sabotaging religious buildings until your assassin gains the trait "Grand Saboteur."
The hierarchy of the saboteur traits are: Plotter, Schemer and Grand Saboteur. Your agent
will have a level 4 agent skill after this.
At this point, it will be easier for you to kill other enemy agents, but not the experienced
one. Princess are the primary target, followed by Diplomats with 0 ability. Killing enemy
captains (units with no generals) also help increase murder traits, if the former mentioned
agents are not available. Unit captains with less stacked units are easier to murder than
dense stacked units. Continue killing until the highest level "Master Assassin."
Note: After the "Gun Power" discovery, your Assassin will come equiped with a "Prototype Gun",
which besides increasing your agent skill, also lowers squalor effects in your cities!
Getting Your Generals to "Breed.":
----------------------------------
Apparently, there is a way to get your generals to have children faster than usual. If you've
noticed why you have a happily married general, still with no children (even though the wife
is drop dead gorgeous), there's usually a reason...and surprisingly it doesn't have to do
with his sperm count.
Generals seem to start having babies when all of their siblings are married. So if you have
5 generals, 4 of them are wed but the last has yet to find a wife, then they usually don't
start having children, until Junior there gets married. So to have that big family tree,
try to get them all of them married as soon as possible.
Also, if you haven't noticed...princesses that successfully marry and enemy general (not a
heir or king) will disappear from the family tree but the sons and daughters will still
show up under your service.
Bonus retinue items:
--------------------
To get unique bonus items for your generals' retinues, you must perform historically important
acts. For example, as a western faction you can send a general on Crusade. When they conquer
the target city they will receive a special item such as the Holy Grail or Mary's Veil. These
special items add bonuses to your generals' stats and abilities.
Change time scale:
------------------
Use a text editor to edit the "descr_strat" file in the "medieval ii total war\data\world\maps\
campaign\imperial_campaign" directory. Look under the "start_date" heading and change the
"timescale" value to "0.50". By doing this, turns will be six months instead of two years.
Unlimited money:
----------------
Use a text editor to edit the "descr_strat" file in the "medieval ii total war\data\world\maps\
campaign\imperial_campaign" directory. Locate your faction, then change the value of their
starting Florins to "9999999999". You can compound this effect by reducing the starting money
of your opponents to a very low value.
Ballista:
---------
Although the Ballista can snipe any unit from a distance with accuracy, it is best to move
them to the right or left flanks of a target unit instead of placing them in front or behind
the target. By doing this, the Ballista will kill more units with its bolts. A good kill is
at least three or four units per shot, with two rounds per shot. The Ballista also ignores
armor, thus allowing it to hit units such as heavy cavalry with ease if positioned correctly.
This is an extremely important ranged/siege unit early in the game until gun powder units
arrive.
Getting your generals to have children:
---------------------------------------
There is a way to get your generals to have children faster than usual. Generals seem to
start having babies when all their siblings are married. If you have five generals and
four of them are wed but the last has yet to find a wife, then they usually will not
start having children until the last general gets married. To have a big family tree,
try to get them all of them married as soon as possible. Note: Princesses that successfully
marry an enemy general (not a heir or king) will disappear from the family tree, but the
sons and daughters will still show up under your service.
Set resources:
--------------
Use a text editor to edit the "descr_strat" file in the "medieval ii total war\data\world\
maps\campaign\imperial_campaign" directory. You can edit any of the resources as desired.
Riots:
------
Riots usually do not occur out of nowhere. If you're responsible with the kingdom, then
it's not going to happen. Responsible means keeping everything active in All of the castles
and towns, such as keeping guards there (to make them comfortable) and keeping buildings
recent. If a riot does occur, just make more buildings. You can also cheat by using the
console and hiring several Peasant militia to the place. (you'd still want some regular
guards)
Win every fights:
-----------------
If you are in a tough spot or if you made a silly little mistake (like how I managed
to send in an important general into enemy territory without the rest of his army),
you may end up in an important fight with impossible odds. When situations like this
occur there is a very simple cheat that makes sure the enemy will always lose.
Hit the ~ on your keyboard and it will open a text menu. Type: "auto_win" without the
quotes and then what side you want to win (attacker or defender) and hit enter. If you
typed in the code correctly it should show the code and you can then click auto-battle
(DO NOT FIGHT YOURSELF). The first few times you may want to save right before typing
the code because a mistake is easily made.
Cheat Codes:
------------
Submitted by: RM
Press ~ during game play to display the console window. Type one of the following codes.

move them) to the right or left flanks of a target unit, compared to placing them in front
or behind the target.
This is an extremely important ranged/siege unit early in the game until gun powder units
arrive.
